GSSCC is working to amend a Montgomery County Council Bill (Bill 60-14) that will require employers to provide paid sick and safe leave for all employees working more than 8 hours per week. The Bill also mandates carryover of 56 hours per year of unused leave, reinstatement of leave if an employee is rehired within six months of leaving, and other provisions. Because the Bill has six co-sponsors, it is expected to pass on Tuesday.
GSSCC is seeking amendments that would at least exempt employers having fewer than 10 employees; eliminate the carryover and reinstatement requirements; increase the part-time exemption from 8 hours per week to at least 16 hours per week; and exempt employees under 19 years of age working no more than 20 hours per week. An email sent on Friday urged all member business owners to contact Councilmembers and urge amendments to this legislation. Contact Jane Redicker with questions or concerns.
